Rio had a lot of amazing things planned for the grand finale of the summer games. First of all, the closing ceremony featured a performance by Kygo, who is a Norwegian EDM artist but lived in Brazil growing up as a kid. He and singer-songwriter Julia Michaels definitely pumped up the volume to get all the athletes in the mood to party.
Of course, many amazing athletes had their last hoorah in Rio at the closing ceremony, so this was our final shot to see people like Simone Biles, (who was be the first ever female gymnast to bear the US flag), Gabby Douglas, and many other stunning athletes from Team USA. Unfortunately, Ryan Lochte was not be in attendance, after his shocking scandal involving lying about being robbed. Bummer!
Of course the biggest moment of the night was be when Rio handed the Olympic flag over to Yuriko Koike, who is the governor of Tokyo. Tokyo will be hosting the next summer games four years from now in 2020, and we can’t wait! Their intro video featuring Super Mario, the fact that the Prime Minister Shinzo Abe came out of a warp pipe dressed like the character, and the dancers with amazing lighted cubes, got up so hyped!
