Can you believe the 2016 summer Olympics are already over?! But before officially putting the 2016 Rio Games to a close, the athletes celebrated in Brazil one last time during the Closing Ceremony — and Kygo hit the stage to give a stunning performance of his hit ‘Carry Me.’
Joined by singer Julia Michaels, who has written songs for Justin Bieber, 22, and more stars, Kygo, 24, hit the stage to perform a rendition of the song “Carry Me.” While he rocked out on the keyboard, she slayed in a sparkling, green, skintight jumpsuit while belting out the vocals of the up-and-coming hit. Dancers eventually joined them in the center of the arena, and the epic performance concluded with an explosion of smoke.
Kygo was in attendance to help launch the Olympic Channel, which officially goes live right after the end of the closing ceremony. The service was created with hopes of keeping interest in the Olympics during the two years between the winter and summer Games, especially among a younger audience. The idea is to promote coverage of lesser-known Olympic sports, while also profiling Olympic athletes in short and long term programming.
The Norwegian DJ was a great choice to get this movement started, as he brought incredible energy and a fun vibe to the closing ceremonies. The 24-year-old has been having quite a year, and just released his debut album Cloud Nine on May 13 after the SoundCloud success of his remix of Ed Sheeran’s hit “I See Fire.”
Kygo’s music hasn’t made much of a push over in the United States quite yet, but after this performance, we wouldn’t be surprised if he starts getting more of a following over here. What do you guys think?!
HollywoodLifers, what did you think of Kygo’s performance? Are you sad the Olympics are over?
