Welcome back to ‘SummerSlam,’ Jon Stewart! The ex-host of ‘The Daily Show’ returned to the WWE on Aug. 21, joining The New Day for their Tag Team Championship match against The Club. Surprisingly, he actually helped them stay Tag Team champions!
The funnyman and WWE superfan just couldn’t stay away, could he? John, 53, came back for more, attending sports entertainment’s biggest party of the summer at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. After Jon made it out to the ring, and revealed why he returned back to the WWE.
“I have been asked by The New Day to come out,” he said, before taking off his hoodie to reveal a New Day T-shirt! He then explained since New Day member Big E, 30, was injured by Luke Gallows, 32, and Karl Anderson, 36, of The Club, Jon would take the Superstar’s place. Jon cheered on Xavier Woods, 29, and Kofi Kingston, 35, as they fought the club for the WWE Tag Team Championships.
The Club had hit The Magic Killer double team move, when Jon came in to stop the pinfall. The distraction worked but Luke and Karl were about to crotch Jon on the ringpost. Right before Jon was about to suffer “ringpostitis,” Big E made his triumphant return! Though the match ended in a DQ, The New Day were still the champs!

Jon is pretty brave to get back into the ring, following what happened at 2015’s SummerSlam. He invited hometown hero, Mick Foley, 51, for a short interview about Brock Lesnar, 36, taking on The Undertaker, 51. Jon wanted to talk to “The Beast Incarnate” before the match, and asked Mick to watch his back. Foley, who has battled The Deadman during some historically hellacious fights, was frightened of Brock and ran far, far away.
That would have been it – except Jon wasn’t done. During the “Title vs. Title” match between then United States champion John Cena, 39, and WWE World Champion Seth Rollins, 30, Jon came out with a steel chair. Many expected Jon to attack Seth – after all, during a March 2015 episode off RAW, Jon kicked Seth right in the crotch! Instead, Stewart slammed the steel into Cena’s back!
Why, Jon? Why? Turns out that Cena was about to tie the record for Most World Championships with Jon’s idol, “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair, 67, and he didn’t want to see Ric’s legacy go down in flames. John Cena wasn’t very forgiving, as he planted Jon in the middle of the ring with an Attitude Adjustment slam. Ouch! That seemed to be the end of Jon’s time in the WWE, until the new General Manager of RAW, Mick Foley, said he invited Jon to be this year’s “special guest.” The New Day might want to thank Mick for extending such an invitation.
What do you think about Jon Stewart returning to SummerSlam, HollywoodLifers? After all this, do you think he’ll be back next year?
