Most media coverage has been following Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump as they make a run for the White House, but they aren’t the only candidates in the race. The Green Party’s Dr. Jill Stein is also running in the 2016 elections. And while ‘The Daily Show’ poked fun at the GP nominee, there are some things you may not know about her. HollywoodLife.com has you covered!
The Daily Show’s host, Trevor Noah, 32, isn’t too sure whether Donald Trump, 70 or Hillary Clinton, 66, would be fit to run the United States. But luckily, during his show on Aug. 18, he pointed out that there are other options. So Trevor called on fellow staffers to give hilarious analysis on Jill’s, 66, very unusual stances on the threat that Wi-Fi presents to children and green energy! “She’s the prefect progressive candidate,” staffer, Desi Lydic said. “If Hillary and Bernie had sex and someone watched it, it would be Dr. Jill Stein.” Say what? The Daily Show might have given you a funny background analysis of the presidential candidate, but here’s a list of other things you should know.
1. Dr. Jill Stein has run for president under the Green Party once in 2012, and again in 2016.
In 2012, Dr. Jill announced her first campaign to run for president under the Green Party. Her major issue at the time was the “Green New deal,” which was a government spending plan to help build jobs for 25 million people. Jill finished with less than 1% of the vote, but made history as the most successful female presidential candidate before Hillary. But Jill returned in June 2016, announcing that she would be accepting her Green Party nomination for president.
2. She’s made controversial statements concerning Wi-Fi
Now, here’s a unique opinion! During a national Q&A session in Mar. 2016, Jill revealed that she believes Wi-Fi is a threat to children’s health. “We should not subjecting kid’s brains especially to that… and we don’t follow this issue in our country, but in Europe where they do, you know, they have good precautions about wireless,” Jill said. “Maybe not good enough, you know. It’s very hard to study this stuff. You know, we make guinea pigs out of whole populations and then we discover how many die.” Her views go against the World Health Organization’s studies that suggest exposure to Wi-Fi has no adverse health affect to children.
3. Dr. Jill supports the legalization of marijuana in all 50 states.
Dr. Jill is all about the legalization of marijuana. The doctor believes that marijuana should be legalized in all 50 states and treated as a medical issue rather than a moral one. “As president, I wouldn’t want to remove all laws against all drug use. But marijuana is a drug that is dangerous because it’s illegal,” she said in one of her campaign videos. “It isn’t illegal because it’s dangerous. There are drugs in use that are far more harmful than marijuana — such as alcohol. Legalize marijuana and the dangers go away. Regulate it so that children can’t buy it on the street corner.”
4. Polls puts her at 7% of the vote in the upcoming presidential elections
In a four way race against Hillary, Trump, and Libertarian candidate, Gary Johnson, 63, recent polls have shown that Jill is coming in last at 7% of the vote. While a victory is not likely, her new poll results mark a big improvement from her 2012 showing. And recent polls show that she’s received more millennial votes than Trump by seven, according to CNN. Way to go!
5. Dr. Jill is a Harvard-trained doctor.
Jill definitely has the smarts! After attending Harvard for her undergraduate degree, she returned to complete the university’s rigorous medical program! Briefly after she finished medical school in 1979, Jill began her own practice, before pursuing a career in politics.
