This is fantastic news! Omran Daqneesh, the five-year-old Syrian boy who was injured and separated from his parents during an airstrike on Aug. 18, has finally been reunited with his mother and father. Get all of the details right here.
Omran Daqneesh, 5, was the subject of a bloodied and dusty image that shocked everyone, following a horrific airstrike in Aleppo, Syria. Now, he has been reunited with his parents in a hospital where he was being treated, and it took until then for the brave boy to cry.
“He didn’t say anything except to ask for his parents,” Abu Rajab from the Syrian American Medical Society told the ABC, and nurses described Omran as being “in shock” until the reunion. “They arrived shortly after, in a second wave of people. Only then, once Omran saw them, did he start crying.” We are so glad that Omran’s mother and father have their baby boy back.
Omran was treated by a doctor who also told the outlet that children with injuries as bad as Omran’s are usually screaming and crying as they’re admitted — which is understandable. “But he didn’t cry — only astonishment,” Dr. Mohammed, who declined to give his first name, said. “It is very difficult for us to see those innocent children…many lose their lives or have to have their limbs amputated. The barrel bombs and the rockets are like rain daily in civilian area[s] and crowded area[s] like hospitals, schools and markets. Any crowded area, is targeted now.”
As we previously told you, a graphic photo of Omran looking battered and bloody went viral following the airstrike in Aleppo. The image of Omran sitting in an ambulance stunned people around the world and served as the face of Syria’s suffering.
