Despite originally standing by his claims that he was robbed with three other swimmers in Brazil, Jimmy Feigen has opted to settle. The 26-year-old agreed to pay $10,800 to avoid prosecution for lying about the robbery, and we have to wonder — will Ryan Lochte follow suit?
Jimmy Feigen, 26, was one of the three swimmers with Ryan Lochte, 32, at a gas station in Brazil on Aug. 13, where they claim they were robbed at gunpoint. However, their accounts of the night have been inconsistent, and further evidence proved they were lying about exactly what happened — so Jimmy has opted to donate $10,800 to a Brazilian charity instead of dealing with any further trouble from this incident, according to ABC News.
Just hours before settling, though, Jimmy clearly stated, “We were robbed at gunpoint. It sounds like people assume we’re guilty.” He and Ryan were thrown under the bus by their teammates, Jack Conger and Gunnar Bentz, though — the guys confirmed to authorities that the story they originally told was “fabricated.”
The investigation has not been completed, but officials confirmed that no robbery happened. CCTV footage, released by TMZ, showed the four men entering and exiting a bathroom, which they reportedly vandalized, then having a confrontation with security guards. It was confirmed that the guards did pull a gun on one of the swimmers, but it was simply to “control” him because he was “angry.”
As far as we last heard, though, Ryan is standing by his original story, although his account of what happened that night has changed over time. He reportedly claims there are three “missing” minutes from the CCTV video that prove his story is legit, but officials continue to refute his claims.
Meanwhile, Jack and Gunnar have safely returned to the United States, and Jimmy will be able to leave as soon as his $11,000 donation goes through. Ryan was already home before cops ordered the guys to stay in Brazil, and it’s unclear what the next step will be in this process for him.
HollywoodLifers, are you surprised that Jimmy settled? Do you think Ryan will follow?
