What an incredible tale! A woman gave birth on a Cebu Pacific Air flight from Dubai to the Philippines on Aug. 14, and her fellow passenger documented the entire thing in a Facebook post. Read the compelling story right here!
Missy Berberabe Umandel was asleep on her Cebu Pacific flight when suddenly her mom woke her up to tell her that a woman was about to give birth. Instead of going back to sleep or simply ignoring the pregnant woman, Missy decided to recount the entire thing on social media along with a sweet picture of the miracle plane baby!
About five hours into the flight to the Philippines, around 8:40 a.m. India Standard Time (the flight was flying over India at the time), Missy said the lady started having contractions. While no one intends on having a baby ON a plane, this woman was apparently not due until October — so this was a full-on surprise for everyone involved!
“For once in my life, I saw flight attendants, who are meant to always maintain their poise and composure, panic ever so slightly,” Missy wrote in her Facebook post. “Flight attendants started calling for medical assistance, and luckily, there were two nurses among the passengers. She was already crowning, so she was brought to the more spacious area in front of the plane. We only heard one semi-loud screech, and a few seconds later, there were tinier, cute screeches, and it was when we knew the baby was born.”
As if it’s not amazing enough that the flight staff and fellow passengers were able to help the woman deliver her baby safely, she only had to push once. It didn’t even take long for the woman to get up and go back to her seat with her newborn, according to Missy. And to top it all off, there happened to be moms with babies on board that were willing to give the woman some infant clothes and necessities to care for her new baby. Talk about a miraculous situation!
Although everything went smoothly (they were even able to clean the baby on board!) the plane made an emergency landing in India to make sure the baby’s health was okay since it was born two months early. All was well, and the baby girl, named Haven, was even awarded 1,000,000 Get Go Points from Cebu Pacific Air…basically a lifetime of free flights!
Missy said the surprise birth resulted in a flight that was twice as long as it should’ve been — 18 hours instead of nine. But rather than being angry at the woman for getting Missy home from Dubai nine hours later than she anticipated, Missy said she had “no complaints” because everyone on the plane was “blessed.” She even added a sweet message to her mom, with whom she witnessed such a miracle.
“Mom, this experience made me appreciate you so so so much more than I already do,” Missy said in her post. “When my future children ask me what my greatest memory with my mother was, I would tell them of this extraordinary moment we shared.” Aww!
