1.) Brianna’s A World Champion In 100m Hurdling
That’s right! Even though this is her first gold medal, Brianna, 25, was already labeled a world champion in 2013. At the 2013 World Championships in Moscow, Russia, Brianna came in first place with a time of 12.44!
2.) She’s Originally From Miami, Florida
Brianna was born in Miami, Florida where she attended and graduated from Miami Northwestern Senior High School. In 2013 she graduated from Clemson University, where she also competed in track and field. Interestingly enough, her major was travel and tourism!
3.) Brianna’s The Only Daughter In A Family With 7 Kids
Brianna is the oldest of seven children born by her parents, which made her the first and only daughter they had! That means she grew up with SIX younger brothers chasing her around.
4.) She Didn’t Make The 2012 Olympics Team
Although Brianna competed in the Olympic Trails for the 2012 games, she did not make the team. During the trials she finished in sixth place in the 100m hurdles with a time of 12.94 — 50 seconds longer than the world championship record she secured the next year.
5.) Brianna & Team USA Made History With Her Gold Medal Win
When Brianna crossed the finish line in the 100m, her teammates Kristi Castlin and Nia Ali were right behind her and secured both the silver and bronze medals. This marked the first time in Olympic history that one country has “swept” all three medals in a discipline!
