The U.S. women’s volleyball team’s medal hopes are still very much alive and well, and they’re going up against Serbia in the semifinals. If they can battle through to victory, the ladies will be playing for the gold medal, something which they have shockingly never won! The last time the two teams met up was in group play back on Aug. 10, when the U.S. came out victorious in four sets (25-17, 21-25, 25-18, 25-19). This could be the year for our women to get their hard-fought Olympic glory, so be sure to tune in for the Live Stream of the game Aug. 18 at noon EST. Team USA has had an incredible run in Rio, but Serbia has been crushing it as well so the teams should be pretty evenly matched. Volleyball legend Karch Kiraly, 55, is at the helm as head coach of the team for the first time and he knows what it takes to achieve Olympic glory, with three gold medals of his own during his storied career. If he can drive the women all the way to the top of the podium, he’ll become the first ever person to win a volleyball gold medal as both a coach and player.
Hopefully the women’s indoor team can make it past Serbia and go for the gold because for the first time in the past four Olympic games, the U.S. women won’t be bringing home the gold medal in beach volleyball. Americans Kerri Walsh-Jennings, 38, and April Ross, 34, shockingly lost in straight sets to the dynamic Brazilian duo of Agatha Bednarczuk, 33, and Barbara Seixas, 29, in the semi finals Aug. 16, putting an end to Kerri’s chase for a fourth straight Olympic gold medal in the event.
