Is Ryan Lochte about to be outed as a liar live on TV? Brazilian police are holding a press conference to discuss of Ryan’s alleged robbery in Rio, and the truth may become clear. Watch a live stream of the news conference right here!
Just after video footage surfaced of Ryan and his teammates Jack Conger, Gunnar Bentz, and Jimmy Feigen at the Rio gas station where they claimed they were robbed, police are holding a news conference to give more details on the incident. The Aug. 18 conference was set to start at 2 p.m. ET, so tune in to the video stream to catch it as it happens live.
As part of the press conference, two of the guys are expected to appear for questioning about the robbery. Which two swimmers will appear has yet to be reported.
American fans and swimming fans around the world are curious to know what’s going to happen to Ryan, Jack, Gunnar, and Jimmy, as they are under fire for lying about being robbed in Brazil. If they’re found guilty, the swimmers could face prosecution for lying to cops.
The guys initially claimed that they had been held up at gunpoint at the Brazil gas station, which has since come into question after video footage from the gas station leaked. The video shows Ryan and his teammates walking toward the bathroom, then later being approached by gas station employees. At the end of the video, you can see the guys with their hands up, but it’s not super clear about what happened.
While the swimmers were asked for money at gunpoint, sources have told TMZ, it was apparently the gas station security guard who asked them for money. According to reports, the guys had done some damage to the gas station’s bathroom, and the security guard was simply demanding they provide money for repairs. The gas station’s manager has supposedly said there was never a gun involved. To top it all off, it has been reported that Ryan and his teammates were all drunk at the time of the incident…a detail that certainly won’t help the boys.
Jack and Gunner were detained as they were on a plane heading back to the U.S., admitting that the robbery story was completely “fabricated” as they talked to reporters. If they’re the ones to speak in the press conference, it seems Ryan’s lies may be exposed quicker than anticipated!
