Taylor Swift is showing off once again how her heart is as big as her giant bank account. The singer has donated a staggering $1 million to relief efforts in Louisiana where floods have left 40,000 homes damaged or destroyed and 11 people dead.
“We began The 1989 World Tour in Louisiana, and the wonderful fans there made us feel completely at home. The fact that so many people in Louisiana have been forced out of their own homes this week is heartbreaking,” Taylor Swift, 26 said in the statement to the Associated Press Aug. 16. “I encourage those who can to help out and send your love and prayers their way during this devastating time,” the singer added.
The very first two shows of Taylor’s mega successful tour were in Bossier City, LA and then Baton Rouge, which was incredibly hard hit by the devastating floods. It was caused by unusually heavy rainfall on Aug. 12 which caused creeks and levees to overflow and turn much of the area into a federal state of emergency due to the epic level of damage it caused. In addition to 11 deaths, 40,000 homes have been destroyed by the floodwaters, leaving so many people with absolutely nothing. Taylor’s donation is such an admirable way to help out in their time of need.
The damage is so extensive that Governor John Bel Edwards expects nearly 30 parishes — otherwise known as counties — to be declared disaster areas, which is nearly half of the state’s 64 parishes per CNN. He told the network that,”We’re going to have standing water all over south Louisiana.”
Taylor is no stranger to helping out anyone in need. In Feb., she donated $250,000 to Kesha, 29, to help with her lawsuit to free herself from Sony Music recording contract. She’s also cut checks of up to $50,000 to help young cancer patients with their medical bills. What a sweetheart!
HollywoodLifers, what do you think of Taylor’s big donation? Should other celebs kick in and help the Louisiana flood victims as well?
