Oh, no! Ryan Lochte is in serious trouble with the Brazilian government after claiming that he had been robbed at gunpoint. A judge is now demanding that he turn over his passport, claiming that police can not verify the robbery ever happened.
Ryan Lochte, 32, and fellow swimmer James Feigen, 26, are being accused of lying about getting robbed at gunpoint while in Rio, Brazil, reports TMZ. In statement to the outlet Brazilian authorities said, “Judge Keyla Blanc De cnop, the Special Court of the Fan and Major Events, ordered the dispatch of search warrants and seizure of passports of American swimmers Ryan Lochte and James Feigen.” The authorities also said that the swimmers were “prohibited” from leaving Brazil, though Ryan has already left the country.
The incident allegedly took place on August 13 when Ryan and James were enjoying a night out in Rio. In an interview, Ryan’s mother revealed that her son and his friends had been in the backseat of a cab when individuals pretending to be police officers allegedly pulled them over and held them at gunpoint. Ryan later confirmed his mother’s claims, though authorities in Brazil believe they have found contradictions to the story.
Officials claim that a surveillance video showing Ryan and his friends returning to the Olympic Village reveals they were in good spirits, as if they had not just been robbed at gunpoint. Now the authorities are hoping to speak to Ryan and James about the incident, though they may be out of luck with Ryan safely back in the United States.
