If anyone’s going to take a stand for veterans, it’s Captain America! Chris Evans took the #22PushUpChallenge and showed off his superhero strength while raising awareness for veterans struggling with PTSD. Click to watch!
“I was challenged by John Krasinski,” Chris, 35, said in an Aug. 15 video posted to Twitter. “This is to raise awareness for veteran suicide prevention, for all the men and women who have served this country and are struggling [with] PTSD – specifically, the 22 veterans who commit suicide a day.” Chris was stunned by such a heartbreaking statistic and he decided to join in on the viral awareness challenge.
The Captain America star didn’t need his shield to do the push-ups, but he certainly could have used a hand from Sebastian Stan, 34, as The Winter Soldier (and Cap’s good buddy) could have held Chris’s dog. The playful pooch nipped at Chris’s hands, making this challenge even more difficult! Still, the Red, White and Blue Avenger did all 22 push-ups with ease.
“I’ll challenge [Jeremy] Renner and [Anthony] Mackie,” Chris said at the end of the video. It seems that every single one of the Avengers are going to get in on this #22PushupChallenge. However, Chris made sure to remind people that this viral sensation is for a good cause. “To all those men and women who serve this country, thank you.”
The #22Pushup Challenge was started by #22Kill, a global movement created by veterans to raise awareness of veteran suicide and the mental health issues they face after seeing armed combat. The organization also wants to educate the public about current veteran-related topics and build support for veterans and their families.
“Help us reach our goal to get 22 Million push-ups – to honor those who serve and to raise awareness for veteran suicide prevention through education and empowerment,” says the #22Pushups official site. People can do 22 push-ups, donate money, or both! Stars like Chris Pratt, 37, The Rock, 44, and others have all taken part. Will #22PushUpChallenge raise more money than the #IceBucketChallenge?
