Dream team! Michael Phelps was overjoyed about gracing the cover of ‘Sports Illustrated’ alongside Simone Biles and Katie Ledecky, calling it ‘an honor!’ We’ve got the scoop on the superstar Olympians joining forces for the Aug. issue, right here!
Michael Phelps, 31, may be one of the most decorated swimmers of all time, but he’s not too proud to be a fanboy when the occasion calls. The Olympian posed next to gold-medal winners Katie Ledecky, 19, and Simone Biles, 19, above the glorified title which reads, “the greatests.” Taking to Instagram, he shared the cover photo of the Team USA athletes with their 14 total showpieces, alongside the caption, “An honor gracing the cover of @sportsillustrated with these two !!!” Each of them slayed at the 2016 Rio Olympics, so this privilege is much deserved!
Michael recently announced that he’s going to retire from the big games, so this is a great way to revel in his accomplishments. After he won his 23rd gold medal (sheesh), he insisted that he is actually leaving, saying: “Done, done, done — and this time I mean it,” on Today. Michael added: “I wanted to come back and finish my career how I wanted and this was the cherry on top of the cake.” The Olympics poster child will leave behind an impressive legacy, especially after winning five gold medals and one silver this year! Who can forget his EPIC game face either?
We can see why Michael was swooning over his fellow athletes, since the ladies also brought the heat! Simone deservedly nabbed herself four gold medals and one bronze. We all saw her flawless performances in the gymnastics individual women’s all-around, team all-around, vault and floor exercise events. And don’t get us started on Katie’s impressive display in the pool, allowing her to take home four gold medals and one silver! Not only did she win the 400m and 800m women’s freestyle races, she also shattered the world record in the latter. Way to make history all!
