Tom Hiddleston isn’t just smitten with Taylor Swift; he’s got a major talent crush, too! The revered actor’s recent role gave him a taste of what it’s like to be a musician, and he says he’s got more respect for them than ever. So is he talking about Taylor specifically?
Tom Hiddleston, 35, recently portrayed the legendary country singer Hank Williams in the film I Saw the Light, and it gave him new perspective on what it means to be a musician, he says. Tom discussed the film, named after Hank’s best-known hit, during a during a SAG-AFTRA Q&A in Los Angeles on August 12:
“I suddenly understood why people [become singers] forever. There’s an extraordinary effect that music has on people; it creates such joy immediately,” Tom said. “I really have such respect for musicians and for singers because they’re so naked. Actors get to hide behind character, even though we’re really expressing ourselves, but people don’t tell that.”
Now, Tom is speaking about a film in which he portrayed one of the most famous musicians of all time. There’s good reason to believe that his realization about the weight and beauty of music lies within studying Hank, and portraying him onscreen. But, he has been spending a lot of time around another, very talented musician. And you can’t deny that he’s quite caught up with her. He left a clue in his answer that leads to Taylor Swift.
“But musical performers are up there and it’s them,” Tom said. “I have a guitar and this is the song I wrote, this is how I feel. But the power you have to make people feel good is extraordinary and that’s the reason why these performers are unstoppable.” Who does Tom know who busts out a guitar on the reg and writes about their feelings, maybe a little too often? His girlfriend, of course! There’s no doubt that there’s one musician who always makes Tom feel good.
