Everyone wants Nina Dobrev to return as Elena Gilbert in ‘The Vampire Diaries’ series finale. But if it doesn’t happen, Julie Plec does have an alternate final episode planned that will ‘satisfy’ fans, CW President Mark Pedowitz revealed at The CW’s TCA event on Aug. 11.
“There are discussions going on with Nina,” Mark said. “We’d love to have her back. Hopefully she’ll be back, but should it not work out, Julie has planned a great series finale that will satisfy fans.”
Mark also said that season 8 was the “right time” to end the show. He wants The Vampire Diaries to “go out in the right way.”
We really hope Nina decides to come back for the series finale. It just wouldn’t be the same without her. However, knowing Julie, she would make sure a series finale without Nina would be just as unforgettable.
Julie revealed at Comic Con that Nina made an “emotional promise” to return for the final season. The executive producer has already revealed big details about the show’s series finale. She told our sister site TVLine that her plan is to bring Nina back “at the very end.”
HollywoodLife.com learned EXCLUSIVELY that Nina would be a part of the finale in “some way shape or form.” Our source was “10,000 percent” certain she would find a way to come back for Elena Gilbert’s final goodbye. Since leaving the show at the end of season 6, Nina made a surprise cameo in the season 7 finale.
The news The Vampire Diaries would be ending after season 8 was announced at San Diego Comic Con. Kevin Williamson, one of the show’s creator, confirmed he’s returning to write for the final season alongside Julie. The final season of The Vampire Diaries premieres on Oct. 21.
