We knew it was coming — Greg Berlanti loves his musical episodes and that means it’s coming to the great superhero shows on The CW. Plus, with so many talented stars (and ‘Glee’ alumni) on the shows, it’s not very surprising!
“Yes, there will be a musical crossover. There will be a musical episode on the back half of the year between Supergirl and The Flash. We have a number of people who can sing across all the shows,” Greg Berlanti said during the Television Critics Association’s summer tour.
“So many times it’s a musical episode off the set,” he added, saying that Melissa Benoist and Grant Gustin are constantly singing in between scenes. “My sense is we’ll be very careful of how they break into song. It’ll probably be an element of being in a character or characters head at the time. It’s many episodes away, but we are going to start combing through the music.”
As for song choice, well Greg only knows of one at the moment.
“I think they’re going to be mostly pre-existing songs,” Greg said, adding to tweet their requests at him! Now it’s not very surprising that this is finally happening. We know stars Melissa and Grant both can sing, and were both actually on Glee. Greg also added that he loves the American Soundbook!
Greg did mention one person who will be singing is Victor Garber and he hopes it’ll be “Edelweiss.” Victor was already pitching songs to sing. Who won’t be signing? Well, Danielle Panabaker definitely does not want to. So yes, that means other superheroes from Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow will also be joining.
A few other announcements made by the EPs on the panel included the appearance of Dolph Lundgren in the Russia flashback on Arrow; the news that one character on one of the four shows “will explore their sexuality;” and that Vampire Diaries‘ Chris Wood will play Supergirl‘s villain Mon-El this season.
So, who do you want to see sing and what songs do you want to hear? Let us know, and of course tweet at Greg your suggestions.
