Say it ain’t so! Serena Williams is officially out of the running for the gold at the 2016 Rio Olympics after a crushing loss on Aug. 9. The world-renowned tennis star had a rough couple of games, finally bowing to the pressure from Elina Svitolina, losing her shot at back-to-back gold.
We can’t believe out eyes. Star tennis player Serena Williams shockingly lost at the Olympics on Aug. 9. The world-renowned star finally broke while taking on Ukranian player Elina Svitolina, after an absolutely brutal match. This loss is especially hard on Serena because it means she lost her chance at winning back-to-back gold medals after slaying at the 2010 games in London. Poor thing! No Cable TV? Relax! Though Serena is arguably the most talented tennis player of all time, she absolutely botched her most recent game. She lost 6-4, 6-3 in the third round to her Ukranian counterpart, after botching several shots and hitting a whopping five double-faults in just one game. Yikes!
This is just the last in a very rough series of games for Serena. She and her sister Venus Williams have literally never lost an Olympic doubled match before 2016, but this year they totally bungled their shot at the gold. Even worse, the crushing defeat came on National Sisters Day. Ouch! The girls fell on Aug. 7 to Czech Republic’s Lucie Safarova and Barbora Strycova in Round 1 of Women’s Doubles, with a sad score of 2-0 in straight sets. Poor things! Serena has suffered shocking losses before, but she always bounced back. We’re sure she’ll come back to America, take a little break, then get right back to crushing those tennis balls. Better luck next time, girl!
