LOL, Michael Phelps was NOT thrilled with Chad Le Clos before their 200m butterfly race on Aug 8. While his major rival was warming up for the event, Michael was caught glaring at him with a scowl on his face from behind. Obviously, the Internet is going absolutely NUTS over the #PhelpsFace!
Michael Phelps, 31, literally defined “game face” ahead of his semifinals heat for the 200m butterfly at the Olympics! The pro swimmer was seated just feet away from Chad Le Clos, his South African nemesis, in the moments before the race, and had the angriest look on his face as Chad danced around to warm up right in front of him. Keep up with the Olympics by watching live coverage here!
Chad beat Michael in this very race during the 2012 Games in London, so the new dad was clearly getting in the zone ahead of the big rematch. Interestingly, it turned out Chad wasn’t even the guy he had to be concerned about: Tamas Kenderesi from Hungary won the heat with a time of 1:53.96, with Phelps coming right behind him at 1:54.12. Chad clocked in at 1:55.19.
The rivals will face off once again now that they’ve both advanced to the finals, and that race will go down at 9:28 p.m. on Aug. 9. Both athletes clearly have different ways that they like to get in the zone, but hopefully Michael can be a bit more subtle this time around!
Michael has already won a gold medal in 2016, with he and his freestyle relay team taking home the top spot in the 400m event. This became the 31-year-old’s 19th gold and 23rd medal overall, so he’s quickly adding to his list of accomplishments in the games. We can’t wait to see what happens next!
HollywoodLifers, what do you think of Michael’s angry face? Do you think Chad got in his head?
