Fox host Andrea Tantaros has come forward to say that not only has the network covered up the fact that she, too, made harassment claims against now former Fox News CEO Roger Ailes, but that her demotion and eventual ban from being on the air was the direct result of having complained about his ‘inappropriate sexual behavior’ toward her!
Andrea Tantaros, 37, says that she came forward to complain to Fox executives in 2015 that Roger Ailes, 76, sexually harassed her at work, and that her complaints led to her suspension, New York magazine reports. Tantaros, who is still paid by the network, told the magazine through her lawyer Judd Burstein that the senior executives “never investigated her complaints”.
In her account, Tantaros says Ailes harassed her dating back to Aug. 2014. He allegedly asked her to “do the twirl” so he could check her out, and she refused. Tantaros was demoted from the program The Five in Feb. 2015, and formally filed a workplace harassment complaint to Fox executive vice-president Bill Shine in April 2015. Tantaros claims that Shine told her “should not fight this”, as “Roger is a very powerful man”.
However, on Aug. 9, through an FNC spokesperson, Bill Shine told HollywoodLife.com: “Andrea never made any complaints to me about Roger Ailes sexually harassing her.” Additionally, a source told Politico that Tantaros’ on-air ban is actually the result of her failing to follow Fox protocol when publishing her book Tied Up In Knots. “Fox didn’t approve of the title [or] of the cover showing her in a submissive pose [the cover depicts Tantaros with her arms bound], which is hardly the type of image Fox wants its female on-air hosts to be sent to the world,” the source told the site.
As a current Fox employee, Tantaros is risking violating her contract’s confidentially clause, but has decided to speak out anyway because “she doesn’t have the same fear of being attacked by the Fox PR machine, and the Murdochs have made it clear they want to clean up the place”, New York added.
HollywoodLifers, what do you think of Andrea’s claim that reporting Ailes’ behavior led to her suspension?
