Samir Ait Said is okay after all! The French gymnast suffered a double broken leg in a horrific vault accident on Aug. 6, but he’s already up and walking again just two days later. See the pics of Samir’s recovery here!
French gymnast Samir Ait Said, 26, is determined to heal as fast he possibly can after breaking his leg during the qualifying rounds at the 2016 Olympics. Two days after the double break occurred, Samir was photographed at Rio’s Vitoria Barra Hospital not just recovering with a smile on his face — he was walking too! Although Samir had to hang on to a walker (understandably so), he appeared to be in decent spirits as he made his way around the hospital with his leg in a cast. He even smirked at the cameras and held up his pointer fingers indicating he’s still No. 1 after such a horrifying incident!
Samir was visited by the president of the Federation Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG), Bruno Grandi, during his recovery, posing for a picture with him as well. Between the support of Bruno and all of Samir’s fans who sent him loving “get well soon” messages after his injury, no wonder Samir is so inspired to make a quick recovery!
In case you haven’t seen the gruesome video of the vault accident, Samir broke his left leg upon a botched landing, snapping his leg in two places instantaneously. As soon as Samir hit the floor, it was clear to see that his left leg was dangling in the wrong direction. Needless to say, it was a pretty horrifying moment…especially because he was dropped by paramedics as he was being carted away on a stretcher! Watch the scary moment below, but be warned that it’s graphic!
Samir underwent surgery on the night of Aug. 6 to repair the tibia he fractured in his landing. Clearly the procedure went well since he’s already taking steps again! While his Rio run is over, the European Chamion gymnast almost immediately assured fans that he’ll be training for the 2020 Tokyo Games as soon as he’s back on his feet — looks like that’s not too far-fetched!
HollywoodLifers, send your love to Samir as he continues to recover!
