Amid the Olympic games comes horrific crimes at the Olympic Village. Two boxers have been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting multiple maids who cleaned their rooms. Their accounts of the alleged crimes are devastating.
Two Olympic boxers have been arrested on sexual assault allegations at the Olympic Village in Rio de Janeiro, according to local authorities. Moroccan boxer Hassan Saada, 22, was arrested on Friday, August 5 — the day of the Olympic opening ceremony — on allegations that he tried to rape two Brazilian maids. He was arrested and detained under a temporary warrant (for 15 days) at the request of the Rio police.
Namibian boxer Jonas Junius, 22, was then arrested on August 7, the second day of the games, was accused by a different maid of forcefully kissing and groping her, then offering her money to have sex with him, according to a report from O Globo (in Portuguese). He has been transferred to the Bangu prison complex located in Rio’s far west zone to await his trial, according to Al Jazeera.
Hassan has claimed that he’s innocent of any wrongdoing, saying that his only interacting with either of the maids is when they were cleaning the room he shared with four other boxers; one of the maids allegedly asked him for a Moroccan flag, and that was it, according to Hassan. The Rio 2016 Organizing Committee is aware of the incident, and is completely cooperating with the investigation!
Olympics officials confirmed that Jonas, who was the Namibian flag-bearer at the Olympic opening ceremony, was arrested, but couldn’t comment on his charges or the nature of his crimes. The light welterweight was set to fight against France on Thursday, August 11, but that now remains in limbo.
