U-S-A! U-S-A! There’s just no stopping our girls! The USWNT got their second win in a row at the Rio Olympics 2016 on Aug. 6, this time disposing of a very decent French team. They couldn’t handle Carli Lloyd, who was the hero once again, and her fans on Twitter couldn’t help but champion her name!
The game itself was a scrappy affair, and the USWNT weren’t at their best, having to withstand lots of pressure from their European rivals. Thanks to goalkeeper Hope Solo, who made some outstanding saves, the US stayed in the game and didn’t go behind.
But after a chess-like game of cat and mouse, it was Carli‘s name that was on the lips of all the soccer fans cheering on our champs. And boy, they did us incredibly proud. It seems like it’s going to be 2015 all over again, and a gold medal is surely in the offing? Let’s not tempt fate yet!
1-0 #USWNT! Who else but Carli Lloyd? Tobin Heath earned that with a great shot, blocked and off the post that falls fortuitously to Lloyd.

The magic goal in the game came in the 72nd minute, with 18 to spare. Tobin Heath struck a low shot that cannoned off the post. The ball dropped in front of Carli who from just 2 yards out had the enviable task of stroking the ball into the empty goal.
It was classic counter attack play from the Americans, who admittedly spent the game on the back foot. But that’s the measure of this team, even when they’re not at their best they win! That’s the sign of a true champion.
Beating the French was their second win of the tournament so far, and followed their glorious performance against New Zealand in a game they won 2-0. Carli scored in that one too! She must have her eye on the top goalscorer prize now!
