Every athlete needs their pre-game ritual! It looks like Serena Williams may have found hers, as she was spotted getting in another twerking (and Snapchat) session before hitting the pavement at the Rio Olympics opening ceremony! Click through to see her pics!
Serena Williams, 34, was stuck waiting for hours before Team USA got to hit the field at the Rio Olympics opening ceremony on August 5. Serena, who is at the olympics to compete in singles and doubles tennis, did what any of us would do — document her long wait on Snapchat! The four-time gold medal Olympian told her followers in a funny Snapchat video that she and her teammates had been stuck on the Team USA buses for hours, and she was really starting to get hungry.
Aww! “We’ve been on the bus for what seems like six or seven hours. I’m cold and now I understand we have another three hours(left on the bus),” Serena told the camera. “So I don’t mean to be Debbie Downer or a Serena Downer, but I’m kind of ready to go. I’m really tired, I’m overwhelmed.” Serena then showed everyone what she called her “hungry face.” We get it, we’ve all been there!
Finally, Serena and her Team USA comrades were able to get off those coaches and join the rest of the world at the Maracanã Stadium to join the opening ceremony proceedings. Serena put her hanger aside, because she was just so excited about getting off that bus! She had to document this moment, too! “We are in the opening ceremonies, this is so cool!” She told the camera as she broke out into a happy dance, laughing and twerking. She’s an expert at this now.
Only she could make those prep school-esque Team USA uniforms look so sexy! Twerking is old hat for Serena, who’s so good at it that she just did a twerking instruction video for Self magazine prior to the Olympics! Along with her warm-ups, the seven-time Wimbledon winner showed how to shake (which is pretty helpful): “Knees bent, get low, arch, slowly slide and twerk, and twerk, and twerk,” she says.
