MC Soffia is living proof that talent comes in all shapes, sizes, and AGES! At just 12 years old, the rapper blew us out of the water at the 2016 Rio Olympics Opening Ceremony on Aug. 5. She may be young, but if you threw her in the middle of a Drake vs. Eminem rap battle, she’d be tough competition!
She’s spunky, funky, and FUN! 12-year old MC Soffia completely rocked the stage on at the 2016 Rio Olympics Opening Olympics on Aug. 5 and simultaneously made her mark on the music — AND FASHION — scene! Did you happen to notice her badass pink dreadlocks?! Soffia is best known for her one of a kind hip-hop style and her incredible duet with Carol Konka, Brazil’s leading female rapper. Joined on stage with Soffia were Anitta, Gil Gilberto, and Caetano Veloso.
Not only is her music fun to dance to, it also sends out important messaging regarding sexism and racism. MC Soffia was raised in a social housing project in Sao Paulo and has seen a great deal of racial inequality as black girl living in the poorer part of town. The fact that she has been able to overcome so many obstacles makes her a true role model! Her latest challenge, however, was finding the peace before performing in front of 70,000 people! “I’m feeling really anxious, and just a little calm,” she told to DailyMail. During the ceremony, Soffia sang “Africa,” which pays homage to black Brazilian women — and you guys seems to love her!

The only part of her concert she wishes she could change is the lip syncing. “‘Normally when I forget my words I improvise, but I’ll be lip syncing so I have remember every word,” she continues. “I think I’d prefer to sing live, I’m better at that. I know that when my moment comes I’m going to be really, really, really nervous. But I think everything will be OK.” Don’t worry, MC Soffia, you were far more than just OK. You were sensational!
HollywoodLifers, what did YOU think of MC Soffia’s music? Would you ever rock pink dreadlocks?
