‘Jessica Jones’ actress, Krysten Ritter doesn’t just play a superhero on television. The star is proving that she is one in real life as she joins the PETA campaign to save and free the orcas from their captivity at SeaWorld. Watch the powerful underwater video here!
In a behind-the-scenes video interview for the “Break Free” campaign, Krysten, 34, sat down to speak with PETA to raise awareness about orca whales that are kept in captivity at the popular, theme park attractions. “Seaworld has vowed to end their breeding program, but it’s simply not enough,” Krysten said. “Orcas are highly evolved, emotional, intelligent creatures who should not be confined in this kind of captivity. It’s the equivalent of a human living their life in a bathtub.”
And in addition to talking about the nature of the sea creatures, she also gives a solution that she and other advocates would like to see happen as soon as possible. “So we would like to see orcas released to seaside sanctuaries where they can live out their days with their family members and swimming, and communicating, and not having to do tricks for a snack.” Wow, this is definitely a powerful message!
Orcas that are imprisoned at SeaWorld swim endless circles, break their teeth by gnawing on metal bars, and are often doped up on drugs to manage stress-induces, psychotic behavior, according to PETA. The “Life Happens” actress also explained how orcas are stripped of their instinctive rights when captured and caged in the small park tanks. “Orcas are meant to swim for a 100 miles a day. They would have to swim back and forth 3100 in their tank to make up for that exercise,” Krysten added.”They are paired with other orcas who maybe don’t even speak their same language.” SO sad!
Kyrsten’s moving campaign video follows after a photo shoot for the “Break Free” campaign poster. The dramatic flyer depicts the actress underwater, banging on the glass, simulating what an orca feels like trapped in a water tank. “Help Free the Orcas From SeaWorld” is the slogan below.
But Kyrsten isn’t alone. She joins a long list of celebrities who have also taken a stand against animal captivity, including American Pie star, Jason Biggs, 38, Tommy Lee, 53, Real Housewives of Miami’s Joanna Krupa, 37, and many more. Amazing!
