Hope Solo is taking NO risks when it comes to the dangerous Zika Virus in Brazil! Before heading to the Olympics, the U.S. soccer star publicly geared up to fight off the mosquitos — but it came back to bite her in the butt when a massive crowd taunted her for it during an Aug. 3 match. Watch here!
After Hope Solo made a save and tossed the ball back into play during the United States’ game against New Zealand on Aug. 3, the crowd erupted in a united “ZIKA!!!!!!!!” chant all at once. The trolling was a reference to the Instagram photo Hope shared before leaving for Rio, in which she wears a net around her head and holds up a giant bottle of insect repellent to ward off her chances of contracting the disease.

“Not sharing this!!! Get your own,” she captioned the photo, adding the hashtag #zikaproof. Clearly, the crowd in Brazil thought the 35-year-old was being a little ridiculously cautious about the whole thing — but, hey, you can never be too careful, right?!
Clearly, the crowd’s taunting didn’t get to Hope too much, though: She didn’t let up one goal in the game, and the United States secured a 2-0 victory. “Oftentimes it’s part of the football culture to boo the goalkeeper,” she explained afterward. “I’m okay with that. I was pretty focused on the game. What goes on around me in the stadium, honestly, doesn’t really matter.”
Hope also added that she knows the Brazilian crowd was just “having fun” during the sporting event, and revealed that she really respects their love of the game. Get it, girl!
HollywoodLifers, do you think Hope is being too cautious, or is she smart to be extra safe? What do you think of the crowd’s chants?
