Don’t expect to see a ‘Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ reboot — EVER! Will Smith said he wouldn’t even consider it until ‘hell freezes over.’ Co-star Alfonso Ribeiro also told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY that he wouldn’t want a reboot to ‘tarnish’ the beloved show.
“I don’t think ever, like pretty close to when hell freezes over,” Will, 47, told E! News about rebooting The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air at the Suicide Squad premiere on Aug. 1. “Like we’re going to leave that one alone.”
Will’s not going back to Bel-Air anytime soon, at least not the show’s Bel-Air. The general consensus among the show’s two biggest stars — Will and Alfonso Ribeiro — is that a Fresh Prince reunion on TV will never happen.
HollywoodLife.com asked Alfonso, 44, EXCLUSIVELY about bringing back Fresh Prince, possibly in the eyes of Carlton. Alfonso wasn’t too set on reviving the character of Carlton.
“At the end of the day, the way I always look at it is that the past is the past, and the present and future is what I’m interested in,” Alfonso told us. “I honor the past by loving the character and every once in a while do the dance. I think we did some amazing episodes, and I would hate to tarnish that with a show that isn’t as good.”
He’s got a point. Sometimes remakes and reboots are really good, and sometimes they’re really bad. Will is busy with movies and Alfonso is now hosting America’s Funniest Home Videos, so it wouldn’t be fair to fans or the actors to bring back something’s that’s not absolutely perfect. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air remains an iconic ’90s show, so we’ll just continue watching reruns to get our Fresh Prince fix!
HollywoodLifers, do you think Will and Alfonso should consider a Fresh Prince reboot? Let us know!
