Wow, this is nuts. Heaven Sent’s Luke Aikins just revealed in a new interview that after falling 25,000 feet, he had no back up plan to save his life in case he missed the safety net waiting for him on the ground. So scary.
Luke Aikins made headlines after he decided to jump out of a plane and go skydiving without a parachute, but little did the world know that he didn’t even bother to wear an emergency chute. In a new interview with the Today Show, Luke revealed that sticking his landing was the most important part, especially after he decided to take off the one and only thing that could have saved his life if everything went terribly wrong.
“It is tiny from 25,000 feet. You can’t really make out the net, you can see the ground, you know where you need to go. As you start getting closer and lower, you start to make out landmarks a little better,” he explained. “I was off by about twenty feet on that one.”
Luke continued to explain the stunt, which is when he revealed that he skipped out on an the emergency parachute. “About halfway up I made the decision that we weren’t going to wear the parachute. It just wasn’t the right move for me safety wise,” he shared. “When I took that off, about five minutes after that I had a feeling like, what am I doing? Why would I do this?”
Luke continued to explain that his cousin reminded him he had plenty of time, so that helped him get his mind off of the lack of parachute. He used that time to get his mind focused, and then before he knew it it was time to jump out of the plane. Eek, how scary! Watch his full interview below:
