Hello baby Jigglypuff! Believe it or not, the Pokemon GO craze has reached a whole new level. Fans have become SO obsessed with the game that parents have literally started naming their kids after the Pokemon creatures! Find out the most popular Poke-names below!
The wild popularity of Pokemon GO has been influencing everything lately from desserts, to back-to-school trends, even clothing. But did you ever think the mobile game would inspire baby names? Neither did we! But, according to BabyCenter, some parents are embracing the unique names from Pokemon GO as well as names from older versions of the game, naming their newborns after the franchise’s beloved creatures.
For girls, names like Roselia, Eevee, and Onyx have increased in popularity while Ash — the name of a fictional Pokemon trainer — Ivy, and Shay have become more popular for boys. “Parents are always looking to pop culture for baby name inspiration and, right now, it doesn’t get hotter than Pokémon GO,” Linda Murray, BabyCenter Global Editor in Chief said, according to The Huffington Post.
“It’s possible that parents’ enthusiasm for the game will reignite their love for the brand and spark a full-fledged naming trend,” she added. Pretty neat, huh? And with the Pokemon GO craze sweeping the world, we can assume that more Pokebabies will be welcomed into the world in the upcoming months! After all, BabyCenter reports that a whopping 50 percent of the moms who frequent their site say they are playing the game. You know what that means, right? There’s still plenty of time for baby Pikachus and Bulbasaurs to enter the world!
BabyCenter’s report ALSO noted that the Pokemon Starmie is a major influencer as well, as the name Star has risen 2,040 spots for girls. Ivy, aka Ivysaur, is up 1,287 spots for boys and Shay, aka Shayman, jumped up 369 spots for girls and 64 for boys since last year. And we have to say, those names ARE actually pretty cute! Who knew?
And with even more addicting features constantly coming out — we don’t see the Pokemon GO craze or the name spike dying down any time soon. And if we’re lucky, Pikatchu will become the next name to trend!
