This is so incredibly sad. A woman in her 20s was killed during a shooting in a crowded area of Austin, CNN reports. Plus, four more were injured in a separate attack nearby. Get all the heartbreaking details here.
The first shooting reportedly began around 2:17am local time, which is when police received reports of gunshots, according to CNN. Sadly, a woman in her 20s was pronounced dead at the scene.
Furthermore, three more women — all believed to be in their 30s — were taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge with gunshot wounds. There was one more victim, but this person refused treatment, CNN notes.
Apparently, after a “disturbance” on Sixth Street, the suspect pulled out his weapon and began firing into the crowd that gathered in the popular nightlife district. The suspect is said to be still at large.
“As officers arrived, as you can imagine, with this being shortly after 2 a.m., and the large crowds we have on Sixth Street at this time, all the individuals leaving the bars, it was a very chaotic scene,” Austin Police Chief of Staff Brian Manley said in a news conference. “A lot of people running in different directions with all the gunshots that were coming out.”

Then, a second, unrelated, incident began seven minutes later at a parking garage — just a few short blocks away from Sixth Street, where the first shooting took place.
“One individual (there) did pull out a weapon and fire it at another individual,” Manley said.
Thankfully, witnesses managed to apprehend the shooter and disarm him. He was then transported to a local hospital. Authorities in the area are asking anyone with videos of the incidents to send them to police.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to those affected by these senseless shootings. This is truly heartbreaking.
