The best of both worlds are colliding, with Pokemon GO creators Niantic announcing that they’re working on a Harry Potter game! Click through for the exciting details!
We’re starting to believe in magic again! The company that created Pokemon GO, Niantic, announced that they’re developing a Harry Potter version of the game due to way too many people asking for it! Niantic’s senior developer Marcus Figueroa explained the decision to IGN:
“We have acquired the rights for the app. The demand for this title was absolutely insane, so we figured we’d give it a shot,” Marcus said. “If we’re lucky we might see a launch by early 2017, but it’s hard to tell this early in the project.
“We want to do something with schools of witchcraft and wizardry, similar to pokestops in Pokemon GO,” he said. “As well as a quest system, and possibly large scale completely interactive events, but no promises. That’s all I can say.”
Okay, we’re seriously freaking out. First Harry Potter and The Cursed Child drops, now we could be casting spells and attending Hogwarts on our phones every day! Instead of capturing Pokemon and claiming gyms, users will be completing quests to get new spells, and engaging in large scale magical combat with teams. Forget Team Mystic, Team Valor and Team Instinct; it sounds like we’re going to be sorted into Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Slytherin and Ravenclaw!
Niantic is incredibly smart to make another game. Pokemon GO has only been out for a few short weeks, and it’s a massive phenomenon. Fifteen million people have downloaded Pokemon GO thus far, and its popularity doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon! The lengths people will go to catch ’em all know no bounds. People are falling off cliffs, losing their jobs, walking into traffic and straight up ignoring Beyonce in concert to play!
