This is terrible. Former NFL player Antonio Armstrong and his wife Dawn were fatally shot and killed inside their Houston, TX home July 29 by their 16-year-old son. Get the tragic details here.
Antonio, 42, and his wife Dawn Armstrong were brutally shot early Friday morning by their son, who left a note that said “I’ve been watching you,” next to a still smoking gun police uncovered. Dawn was pronounced dead in the couple’s bedroom “after their son dialed 911 around 1:30 AM,” the NY Daily News reported that police sources told KTRK-TV. Antonio was pronounced dead due to a gunshot wound to the head at Memorial Hermann Hospital just hours later. “Police then arrested the 16-year-old boy and said he was likely to be charged as an adult.”
The couple who has three children, a 20-year-old son and a teenage daughter, were all inside the Southwest Houston home when the shooting occurred. “All were unharmed, Houston police homicide investigator Jimmy Dodson told the Houston Chronicle,” the site reported.
“This was an outstanding family. The male of the family was an absolute hard-working breadwinner,” Dodson told KPRC-TV. “He was an associate pastor in an area church. He’s a great guy. The mother was apparently a great mother, according to family members. Like I said, it was kind of the all-American family.” Investigators were searching to figure out what could have led to the brutal shooting Friday, because Dodson said there was no sign of tension within the family.
Antonio was a former Texas A&M All-American linebacker before being selected in the sixth round of the NFL draft by the San Francisco 49ers in 1995. He went on to play for the Miami Dolphins after his stint with the 49ers. The family owned a fitness company called 1st Class Training which spread across the Houston area with multiple locations.
Antonio’s former head coach at A&M, R.C. Slocum, took to Twitter to release a statement.

A GoFundMe page was created to help the family following the shooting has raised over $39,000 so far in just 17 hours. “We are creating this to raise money for the surviving children of Dawn and Antonio Armstrong. Dawn and Antonio were amazing people….full of love for each other, their kids, their friends and their community,” the page says. “Let’s rally around this family and show them how much we loved Dawn and Antonio, and that we will miss them and their big hearts dearly.” Our thoughts and prayers are with the Armstrong’s friends and family at this time.
