Even the best fall down sometimes! Pope Francis took a scary tumble in the middle of morning mass on July 28, seeming to lose his footing while taking a few steps down the altar. HollywoodLife.com has the video, here.
So scary! Pope Francis, 79, took a sudden fall after missing a step while celebrating Mass at the Poland’s holiest shrine Jasna Dora. The religious figure was surrounded by priests, who rushed to help him get back on his feet the moment he lost his balance while exiting the altar. The pontiff was carrying an incense holder and appeared to be in deep concentration as he stumbled. Vatican spokesman Greg Burke said “the pope is fine,” according to TMZ.
“He is in good condition. He did not even complain at all. He never said a word. Also, the homily showed that the pope has strength and this strength he gets from the people,” Archbishop Waclaw Depo revealed to the Chicago Tribune. We’re so relieved to hear that Pope Francis is doing well! The pontiff wore his large creme colored robe and brought his scriptures to mark the occasion of the 1050th anniversary of the “Baptism of Poland.” He certainly knows the show must go on, as he didn’t even let his collapse stop him for longer than a moment.
Tens of thousands of people showed up to pay their respects, so it was quite an inspiring event for all to see. Pope Francis continues to wow with his ability to reach the masses and he certainly has kept up with the changing times. He’s got an active Twitter account with nearly 10 million followers, and he’s got an additional 2.9 million people keeping up with his every move on Instagram.
