It’s happening. It’s actually happening. Idina Menzel is set to take on the role of CC, the character made famous by Bette Midler, in Lifetime’s ‘Beaches’ remake. Get ready to cry all the tears.
Idina Menzel, 45, will star in Lifetime’s modern remake of the 1988 classic Beaches, our sister site Variety reports. Idina will play CC, an aspiring singer looking for her big break. She meets Hillary on the Venice Boardwalk as a teenager, and the two form a lifelong friendship. Through the ups and downs of life, CC and Hillary’s bond can’t be broken. For those of you who have seen the movie, you know the ending is downright devastating.
The role of CC was originated by the one and only Bette Midler, 70. The Beaches remake will feature new versions of classic songs “Wind Beneath My Wings” and “The Glory of Love.” Idina will also record additional songs for the movie. When the movie was originally released, “Wind Beneath My Wings” went on to win Record of the Year and Song of the Year at the 1990 Grammys.
We all know Idina can sing (like, really sing), so she’s definitely the perfect person to tackle Bette’s iconic role. While we’re not sure the movie needed to be remade, Idina will certainly make the movie her own. After the news released, Idina tweeted, “Can’t wait to start shooting.”
The Lifetime remake has not found its Hillary yet. The role was originally played by Barbara Hershey, 68. A little fun fact: One of the first roles for The Big Bang Theory’s Mayim Bialik, now 40, was playing young CC.
The Beaches remake is set to be released on Lifetime in 2017. We’ll keep you updated on all the latest casting announcements!
