Wait, what?! ‘GMA’ anchor Lara Spencer sent ‘Scandal’ fans and Shonda Rhimes into a tailspin when she said season 6 was going to be the show’s ‘final season.’ Is the show really ending? Here’s what Shonda is saying!
“A little bittersweet, however, because it has been said that this is also going to be the final season,” Lara said during the Pop News segment on July 27’s Good Morning America. Michael Strahan asked Lara who told her that and she said, “I’m afraid to say it…Shonda Rhimes, she said, yeah. And it is tremendous, so enjoy every minute of it.”
It didn’t take long for Shonda to respond to what Lara said and calm the Gladiators down. “Whoa, @GMA: I never said this was the final season of #scandal. Way to make me spit out my coffee!” she wrote.
After Shonda tweeted that this would NOT be the final season Scandal, Lara got back on the air and apologized for what she said.
“Hey, during Pop News, we said that this was the last season of Scandal,” Lara said. “Shonda has weighed in, she just tweeted, and she said we made her spit out her coffee. My apologies. She said she has an ending in mind, but that ending is not happening this next season. So thank you Shonda. Yes, we can all breathe, because as you guys know, it is my absolute favorite show. So correction, ending in mind, but when that ending is happening we don’t know. So, to be continued on the Scandal scandal. More scandal. So thank you Shonda, I’m sorry I made you spit out your coffee.”
Shonda later thanked Lara for her correction. Whew! For a minute there, we were so stressed. Scandal is just in the thick of things, and we’re not ready for it to be over. It’s part of TGIT, for crying out loud!
The show has been pushed to midseason due to Kerry Washington’s pregnancy. But the cast has already started production on the new season. They just had their first table read! Scandal is still going strong, Gladiators!
