President Obama’s ready to ‘pass the baton’ to Hillary Clinton, according to his heartfelt speech at the DNC on July 27. His endless confidence in her showed when he said she was ‘more qualified’ than he or Bill Clinton, and she even made a surprise appearance at the end. Here’s the scoop!
President Barack Obama brought tears to our eyes with the closing address on night three of the DNC, when he told the delegation all the reasons why Hillary Clinton is the only person who’s qualified — even overqualified — to be president! “There has never been a man or a woman, not me, not Bill (Clinton), more qualified than Hillary Clinton to serve as president of the United States of America.” Wow! That’s saying a lot!
President Obama read off a laundry list of his amazing accomplishments over the last 8 years, but said that “we’ve got more work to do,” and Hillary is the person for the job. “For four years I had a front row seat to her intelligence, her judgement and her discipline,” he said. “I came to realize that her unbelievable work ethic wasn’t for praise, it wasn’t for attention, that she was in this for everyone that needs a champion. She’s never forgotten just who she’s fighting for.”
On the other hand, Barack warned against the danger of electing Donald Trump, who has preached nothing but “resentment and pain and anger and hate.” “America is not a crime scene. We don’t look to be ruled by one man,” he said, before going on to compare Donald to terrorists. “Anyone who threatens our values, whether fascists or communists or jihadists or homegrown demagogues, will always fail in the end.” He said that Donald’s ideals are everything his family was always against. “My grandparents were in Kansas – Scotch Irish. I don’t know if they had their birth certificates but they were working hard. My grandparents didn’t like bullies or braggarts. They believed in hard work, honesty, helping neighbors out.”
“America is already great,” he continued. “America is already strong, and our greatness does not depend on Donald Trump. In fact, it doesn’t depend on any one person.” And Hillary knows that. He says that Hillary can do everything he does, but “like Ginger Rogers, backwards and in heels” and that “no matter how much people try to knock her down, she never EVER quits.” When it comes to Donald, he told his supporters “don’t boo, vote.”
Barack’s speech was beautiful, relatable and inspiring as always, but there was definitely a sadness to the fact that this is the last time he would address the DNC as president. There were a few times his voice cracked and he appeared to tear up. Someone even screamed “four more years!” We can tell he will go down in history as one of the best presidents of all time, and hopefully the next will live up to his legacy, but as he said at the end of the speech “now I’m ready to pass the baton and do my duty as a private citizen. Thank you for this incredible journey, let’s keep it going.” Hillary even made a surprise appearance to give him a hug! So powerful!
