A lot of couples promise they’ll be friends after a breakup, but Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato actually stuck to their word. The longtime friends are more like family than exes, according to Joe. So sweet!
“She’s family,” Joe Jonas told E! Online. “We’ve known Demi [Lovato] for so many years. We’ve performed with her, toured with her. She’s just incredible. It’s not always the case. Sometimes you have to know when to fold the cards. I don’t think of her as an ex. We’re really good friends. We’ve gone through so much together and we’re really close now.”
That’s lovely! Joe and Demi met in 2008 when they filmed the classic Disney Channel original movie Camp Rock, along with his brothers Nick and Kevin Jonas. You know, when they were the Jonas Brothers! They were all just babies then! Joe and Demi began dating in 2010, right in the middle of filming the sequel, Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam.
Getting forced together to sing “This Is Real” over and over again definitely had something to do with that romance, didn’t it? The couple only dated for a few months, but they were the hottest couple in town if you were tweens. That’s why it was such a dagger to the heart when they broke up. Especially since the drama that followed, when Demi had a breakdown backstage while touring with the Jonas Brothers in 2011 and punched backup dancer Alex Welch in the face.
The immediate rumor was that their fight was over Joe, but Demi confirmed that wasn’t the case, after entering a treatment program. “I wouldn’t credit my meltdown to a guy,” she told Elle at the time. “There was so much other stuff in my life.” Demi later revealed that she suffered from substance abuse and mental health problems. But everything’s okay with Demi and the Jonai years later, and as Joe said, they’re all extremely close. For goodness sake, she’s on tour with Nick!
HollywoodLifers, are you glad that Joe and Demi are still friends? Tell us in the comments!
