The hard work is just beginning for Brady on ‘American Gothic.’ HollywoodLife.com talked EXCLUSIVELY with Elliot Knight about what’s next for Brady, how far he’s willing to go to catch the Silver Bells Killer and if he suspects Tessa at all! Check out our Q&A before the July 27 episode!
Okay, so Brady finds out that Cam is not the Silver Bells Killer, but someone in the family is. Where does Brady go from here?
I think this is probably what Brady has been dreading in the back of his mind this whole time since this case reopened. It’s already been a struggle. It’s already presented its own challenges. It’s so closely tied to the family or it seemed so to start with. But then to actually confirm that he knows that one of his in-laws, his wife’s family, his wife included, are now all suspects of these terrible serial killings. It really doesn’t get more intense than that. It’s definitely going to be the start of a very difficult ride for both Brady and Tessa. All the hard work really starts now.
What can you tease about the next episode?
Well, after this the hunt begins. We’re trying to narrow it down now the best we can. For Brady, he’s trying to protect his family and it’s the biggest test to his family and to his work that we’ve seen. I think he and Tessa find they have to reconcile and work together on this now because there’s such huge pressure on their relationship and on the family. Everyone’s starting to become suspicious of each other. This is the episode where it begins to corrupt and eat away from the inside, which is obviously a huge turning point.
Will Brady do whatever it takes to take down SBK, even if it means destroying Tessa’s family?
Brady has two priorities: One is Tessa. The other is his duty. He believes in justice and will work hard to carry that out. And it’s not about serving your own interests. I think that’s what’s nice about his character and the polar opposite that he represents to what can be represented on the show which is this rich upper class. It’s not all about being self-serving. It’s about doing what’s right, regardless of the cost. Brady’s goal is to not find what’s the most convenient answer for him, but to find the truth. And that’s what he needs to honor. I think Brady knows that’s what he’ll do and how he operates. He’s just praying that the answer is not going to be something he doesn’t like. If it is, there’s nothing he can do to change that. If it turns out to be someone in the family, he has to handle it like he would any other person.
Is there any part of him that suspects Tessa?
It’s tough. Filming these scenes and Megan, who plays Tessa, is one of my best friends, it’s really tough to even engage with the idea that someone so close to you that you’ve known for years, that you’re so in love with, could have this secret that’s on another level. I’m sure he wouldn’t think it’s his wife. There’s not a bad bone in her body, as far as he’s concerned. I don’t think any logic is going to point Brady to Tessa, not before anyone else anyway. It’s somewhere he would want to go. I don’t think he’s suspicious of her. I think he’s more protective of her and concerned and worried because she really is the heart of the family.
