Someone’s driving the snakes out of Taylor Swift’s Instagram. Could it be Instagram itself? The app is reportedly testing out a tool that could censor negative comments, like all the snake emojis left on Taylor’s pics. Is this going to upset fans?
In the wake of Taylor Swift‘s fallout with Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, her followers have gone all out on Instagram, filling her photos to the brim with snake emojis in the comments. This is all thanks to Kim tweeting about “National Snake Day” almost immediately after releasing her infamous “Famous” Snapchats. So sweet of her.
But now, followers are starting to notice that the snakes have been shooed out of Swift-land — and alleging that they can’t post any more! There’s major speculation that this isn’t due to Taylor’s team being impossibly speedy and deleting the snakes as soon as they slither in. Instead, it could be due to a new tool that Instagram is reportedly implementing, in which high-profile accounts like Taylor’s have the ability to censor their negative comments. Whoa!
Instagram would not confirm that this is actually what’s happening, instead telling Metro UK that “We’re always looking for ways to help people have a positive experience with comments on Instagram. We’re currently focused on providing tools to improve accounts with the most high-volume comment threads. We will use our learnings to continue to improve the comment experience on Instagram.” Interesting!
If Taylor were to have her hands on such a tool, it would be a groundbreaking development in social media, according to The Sunday Times. Instead of sifting through hundreds of thousands of negative or abusive comments, a user lucky enough to have the alleged function could simply target what they wanted removed, and *poof* it’s gone. All we know is that Taylor should probably talk to Rachel Roy right now if she needs someone to lean on!
HollywoodLifers, would you be mad if Taylor were given a tool to censor comments? Tell us!
