The ‘Dream Team’ is back! The US men’s Olympic basketball team is being put through its final paces before heading off to Rio to face off against the world’s best. Their first test is warm-up game against Argentina on July 22 at 9pm EST. Watch the full game with us here!
Now, LeBron James, 31, and Stephen Curry, 28, might have pulled out of selection for the Rio Olympics, but that doesn’t mean there’s a shortage of talent in this US team. They will be the outright favorites when they arrive in Brazil, and rightly so because no one has managed to snap their 64-game winning streak so far!
I mean, some of the talent that has been put together for this squad is still some of the best in the NBA. You’ll have the likes of Kevin Durant, who was recently acquired by the Golden State Warriors, as well as names such as Paul George, DeMarcus Cousins and Carmelo Anthony. Put that all together and you have a hell of a team that will frighten them all in Rio, surely?
The only thing that can count against the US team is that they will have to guard against complacency. They know they are streets ahead of the competition, but they can’t let it get to their heads. They have to be focused on the matter in hand and work hard.
That’s why this game against Argentina, and the upcoming July 24 match-up against China, are key to this team’s preparations. After all, some of them are used to playing against each other, playing in the same team will require some match practice to understand each other’s games that much better.
HollywoodLifers, will our team miss Steph and LeBron? Or do you think there’s enough talent there to lift gold? Tell us what you think!
