Emily Prentiss returns! Paget Brewster, one of the original BAU agents on’Criminal Minds’ is officially heading back to CBS for a multi-episode arc to help the team catch 13 escaped serial killers!
“We’re excited to have Paget Brewster back for multiple episodes in our 12th season,” Criminal Minds executive producer and showrunner Erica Messer said in a statement announcing the news. “The BAU can use more help this year since they’ve got a lot of known and unknown subjects to catch.”
Paget, 42, left the CBS show after season seven, ending her story with Emily heading to the Interpol office in London. She has been back multiple times — most recently after Shemar Moore‘s character left last season. Last Fall she was cast in Fox’s Grandfathered, but it was canceled. When a fan tweeted a video at Paige of Emily saying “Guess Who’s Back,” she adorable retweeted it, adding, “Anna, this just made me laugh my ass off. Thank you. I’m so excited to be back with you, my friends.”
Kirsten Vangsness, AKA hacker, Penelope on Criminal Minds, announced the news at San Diego Comic Con, also adding that Aisha Tyler will also return as Dr. Tara Lewis.
The show obviously is going through a lot of changes since Shemar’s departure, which he announced because he wanted to see where else his career could go.
“I want to be bold and I want to see what I’m capable of,” he said in an interview with TVGuide. “The Young and the Restless: eight years. [That was] high school. Criminal Minds: college. Now I’m ready for grad school, a Ph.D., whatever you want to call it. I’m just ready to grow. I just want to leap. And I don’t know where I’m going to land, but I believe that I’m going to land. I’m not leaving to go be a big star. I’m not leaving to go make a bunch of money. I’m leaving because I just creatively want to be fueled and [am] excited to try new things and see what else I’m capable of. But I’m always going to look back and salute.”
