No one does politics quite like Jon Stewart. Just under a year under ago, he handed over the Daily Show — and on July 21, he returned to late night on Stephen Colbert’s desk on ‘The Late Show.’ Naturally, he took on Donald Trump. (Even in a t-shirt, we take Jon Stewart pretty serious.)
During Stephen Colbert‘s segment on Roger Ailes quitting Fox News, a scruffy-faced Jon crawled out and took over Colbert’s chair behind the desk — wearing a grey tee. Luckily, the current host had a suit jacket and clip-on tie ready to give him. Of course, he immediately took on Donald Trump and everyone in his party.
He starts out talking about the Olympics — and all the “contortions” that Republicans will have to do embrace Trump — he also went for his supporters. “You feel that you’re this country’s rightful owners. There’s only one problem with that,” he said.
“This country isn’t yours. You don’t own it. It never was. There is no real America. You don’t own Patriotism. You don’t own Christianity. You sure as hell don’t own respect for the bravery and sacrifice of military, police and firefighters,” he continued. “Trust me. I saw a lot of people on the convention floor in Cleveland with their ‘Blue Lives Matter’ rhetoric who remained silent or actively fought against the 9/11 first responders bill re-authorization. I see you, and I see your bullsh-t. I see it.”
Specifically, he targeted “Lumpy,” which is the nickname he gave for Fox News’ anchor Sean Hannity. “Those fighting to be included in the idea of equality are not being divisive, those fighting to keep those people out are. So Lumpy, you and your friends have embraced Donald Trump. Clearly, the C next to your names don’t stand for “Constitutional” or “Conservative” or ” but Cravingly, Convenient…”
With that, Colbert crawled out from under the desk with an airhorn to censor the next word Jon almost said. Did you enjoy his return, HollywoodLifers?
