Yikes! Yet again protesters crashed the Republican National Convention on July 21, and it was the most tense moment of the huge event so far. The founder of Code Pink was thrown out while the crowd jeered at her after interrupting Donald Trump’s speech. Here’s the scoop.
The Republican National Convention got heated on July 21 when protesters crashed Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio. The founder of social action group Code Pink herself, Medea Benjamin, was escorted out by security after sneaking in to the RNC and interrupting Donald Trump’s speech!
Donald was in the middle of his impassioned speech when suddenly he began staring off screen and the crowd began roaring “U-S-A, U-S-A!” When the camera panned over, Medea was being grabbed by security and screaming. She held a sign that said “Build Bridges, Not Walls,” which was being yanked from her hands as she was escorted out. To try to draw attention back from the situation, Donald yelled “How great is Cleveland?!” Code Pink has protested every night of the RNC, so it’s shocking that they didn’t catch the leader as she entered.

Of course, this certainly wasn’t the only protest at the convention. Luckily most of them were peaceful, like when social action group Code Pink ran through the stadium holding up pink flags with messages like “No Racism No Hate.” Unfortunately that was greeted by anger at the RNC, who covered the poor women with flags and yanked their signs away.
There was also an instance of violence, when the Revolutionary Communist Party tried to burn an American flag outside of Quicken Loans Arena and a scuffle between them and police broke out. No one was seriously injured but several people were arrested. Hopefully the rest of the RNC will finish out violence-free, but when the candidate is so controversial, there are no guarantees.
