Donald Trump’s running mate Mike Pence took the stage at the Republican National Convention on July 20, and he had a lot to say about Hillary Clinton. Fans are freaking out about the new nickname he gave her: ‘Secretary of the Status Quo.’ We have all the details on his speech, right here.
Mike Pence, 57, spoke to America for the first time since Donald Trump, 70, introduced him as his running mate on July 16, before the Republican National Convention began. After the speech, we’ve definitely learned more about what Mike is all about, especially when he started talking about Hillary Clinton. Turns out, he’s just as fond of name-calling as Donald is.
He talked about Hillary grooming Barack Obama to be the kind of president she would be, before saying “Hillary Clinton wants a better title – I would too if I was already America’s Secretary of the Status Quo.” Yikes. He seemed like a nice enough guy while he was emotionally introducing his kids, wife and mother, but all that went out the window when Hillary came up. Fans ate it up, chanting “Be Like Mike.”
“Secretary of the Status Quo” immediately started to trend on Twitter, but not because people agreed. Hillary’s supporters thought it was a hilariously weak attempt at a diss, and instead they took over the hashtag and used it to poke fun at their Republican counterparts.

Secretary of the Status Quo? 4 more years of Obama? Fine by me.

"Secretary of the Status Quo"? That's the best burn he's got? No wonder they have to crib speeches. #RNCinCLE

Mike was an interesting choice for Donald, who in some ways has proved himself to be a more moderate Republican. On the other hand, Mike is incredibly staunch and old-fashioned, and many assumed he was Donald’s attempt at seizing the Evangelical vote. Donald himself admitted that he has party unity in mind while selecting the former Indiana Governor. “I have to be honest. So many people have said ‘party unity,’ because I’m an outsider,” explained Donald while introducing his VP pick on Sat.. After Mike’s speech, it definitely seems like he’s trying to bring in a certain type of Republican.
