Caitlyn Jenner stormed the Republican National Convention when she spoke at an event for American Unity Fund on July 20 in Cleveland, OH, taking aim at Republicans who say transgender people shouldn’t be allowed to use the bathrooms of their choice. WATCH the ‘I Am Cait’ star argue against the GOP-supported bathroom bills right here!
Caitlyn Jenner, 66, didn’t hold back when she told Republican politicians that the party needs to wake up and realize that transgender people aren’t the ones having issues in the bathroom, so to speak. “We had over the last few years, we had three Republican state representatives — Jon Hinson, Larry Craig and Bob Allen — who were all arrested for lewd behavior in a men’s bathroom,” Cait said at the Big Tent Brunch, sponsored by the Log Cabin Republicans and American Unity Fund. “Maybe what we should do is ban Republican representatives at a state level from being in the men’s room.” BURN!
While Cait is a Republican herself, she puts the trans community first, and she is keen to maintain that her party needs to diversify and support LGBT rights. As for her personal experience, she said she hasn’t had any issues using the restroom. “I haven’t used the men’s room in a year and a half,” Caitlyn shared. “And thank God, because there are some great conversations going on in the lady’s room, OK?” Ha!
Cait also acknowledged that the Democratic party has done a better job of supporting LGBT rights, and applauded President Obama. “I have to admit, I’ve been very disappointed over the last five to 10 years, but I won’t give up hope on it,” Caitlyn said. “I think the Republican Party needs to understand — they need to know people who are trans.” Agreed!
