Fox News CEO Roger Ailes is in a bit of a pickle. A July 19 report says the network’s parent company, 21st Century Fox, is forcing him out following Gretchen Carlson’s lawsuit and host Megyn Kelly’s shocking claims that he sexually harassed her. Ailes must step down by Aug. 1, or he will be fired! Get all of the details here.
New York magazine reports that lawyers at 21st Century Fox told Ailes he has until Aug. 1 to resign, or else they’re going to fire him. “Rupert and sons James and Lachlan, the three top executives at 21st Century Fox, have decided that Ailes needs to be removed,” sources tell the magazine. “Ailes’s legal team — which now includes Susan Estrich, former campaign manager for Michael Dukakis — has yet to respond to the offer. Ailes has also received advice on strategy from Donald Trump,” the insiders add. Blind leading the blind much?
Ailes’ ultimatum comes in the wake of Megyn Kelly telling investigators that Ailes sexually harassed her in the workplace a decade ago. “Kelly has told investigators [at New York law firm Paul, Weiss] that Ailes made unwanted sexual advances toward her about ten years ago when she was a young correspondent at Fox,” sources tell New York. “Kelly [has] described her harassment by Ailes in detail.”
Since former Fox News host Gretchen Carlson filed her explosive suit against Ailes, various female Fox employees have publicly praised and defended Ailes. Kelly, obviously, was not one of them, and her peers have given her flack for her silence. Well, now they know why she wasn’t keen on supporting the Fox News CEO — who won’t be just that for much longer.
HollywoodLifers, do you think Ailes will resign, or will the network have to resort to firing him? How do you think this will all play out?
