Michelle Obama may not be the only person that Melania Trump plagiarized in her RNC speech! Her address also contains a well-known song lyric, and has officially provided the greatest Rickroll of all time. Watch here!
“He will never, ever give up,” Melania Trump, 46, said of her husband, Donald Trump, 70, during the Republican National Convention on July 18. “And most importantly, he will never, ever let you down.”
Yup, these are basically the lyrics from Rick Astley’s 1987 hit, “Never Gonna Give You Up,” which has famously become a viral Internet sensation when the music video is inserted in the middle of an otherwise unrelated video. Of course, a YouTube user HAD to take the opportunity to mash-up this portion of Melania’s speech with the chorus of the song, and it’s totally hilarious. Watch above!
What we HAVE to wonder now, though, is: Did she include the opportunity for a Rickroll in her speech on purpose?! It’s a pretty crazy coincidence if she didn’t.
The 46-year-old’s Republican National Convention speech has been a major topic of conversation this week, as the Internet quickly pointed out how similar the message was to that of Michelle Obama’s during the 2008 Democratic convention. The Trump campaign has denied that Melania plagiarized, but a mash-up video clearly shows exact quotes from each speech that are basically word-for-word the same!
Melania originally claimed to have written the speech herself, but after all the backlash, she released a statement confirming that she had writers work on it for her. “In writing her beautiful speech, Melania’s team of writers took notes on her life’s inspirations, and in some instances included fragments that reflected her own thinking,” the statement read. “Melania’s immigrant experience and love for America shone through in her speech, which made it such a success.”
HollywoodLifers, do you think Melania purposely Rickrolled? What do you think of the video?
