Baltimore Shootings: 5 People Shot & Injured At Vigil For Jermaine Scofield

How awful. At least five people were reportedly shot while mourning Jermaine Scofield at a vigil in Baltimore which was being held at the exact spot where the 24-year-old was killed. Jermaine Scofield, 23, was shot and killed in West Baltimore early on Sunday morning, July 10. Less than 24 hours, a gunman reportedly opened fire on approximately 20 to 30 people who were holding a vigil in the young man's honor. So sad.

Four women and a man were shot by an unidentified gunman in Baltimore on  Monday, July 11, reports local news outlet WBAL-TV 11 Baltimore. Thankfully, police have since revealed that all injuries were “superficial” and that none of the victims lives were in danger. However, the circumstances surrounding the shooting are especially tragic.

The five people who were injured were taking in a part in a vigil mourning 23-year-old Jermaine Scofield. The victims had wounds on their legs and ankles, and one woman was graze by a bullet on the stomach. Most of the victims transported themselves to the hospital for treatment.

“There were some bullets (that came) from everywhere, and we saw the people screaming. We don’t know where they came from,” Rev. Keith Bailey, president of the neighborhood association, told the news outlet. He also revealed that a police officer had just left the vigil moments before someone opened fire on the crowd. As of Tuesday morning, July 12, police were still looking for more eyewitnesses.

Baltimore police Detective Donny Moses told the news outlet that the shooting remained an “open” and “active” investigation as they desperately search for a suspect. If anyone has any information about this shooting, they should call 410-396-2221 immediately.
