Meet Team USA’s new fab five! Gabby Douglas, 20, Simone Biles, 19, and three more lucky ladies will head to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games next month to defend USA’s Olympic team gold medal. Did your fave gymnasts make the cut at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials? Find out now!
Simone, Gabby, Laurie Hernandez, 16, Madison Kocian, 19, and Aly Raisman, 22, will be leading the U.S. Olympic Women’s Gymnastics team in Rio. The three replacement athletes are Ashton Locklear, 18, MyKayla Skinner, 19, and Ragan Smith, 15.
Gabby and Aly are returning to the Olympic teas after winning individual and team gold medals at the London Olympics in 2012. They are the first U.S. women’s gymnasts to make two Olympic teams since Dominique Dawes and Amy Chow.
Simone is undoubtedly the biggest standout on the team. The Texan hasn’t lost in more than three years and earned a two-day total score of 123.250 at the trials. She won the Olympic trials all-around, making her place on the team the only secure spot. “It’s so unreal,” Simone said after the trials. “I’m just proud and honored to be selected.”
Gabby fell on the high beam on both nights of the trials, but she secured her spot on with her stellar performance on the uneven bars. Laurie finished second to Simone at the trials and is the first Puerto Rican woman to make the U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Team. Rounding out the final spot is Madison, who is the world champion on bars. We can’t wait these girls in Rio!
